Core
Curriculum / Life Skills
At a Colorado Adventure Sports™ youth camp, kids will
receive a mini education in several different sports
and activities and will most likely develop some new
hobbies and sport interests. They will be exposed
to several different sports and may even develop new
outdoor skills such as basic knot tying, setting up
a camp, boating skills and awareness, and basic first
aid and safety.
Along
with providing an endless, flexible, and exciting
variety of activities for campers (some of which are
directly related to our core teaching agenda), Colorado
Adventure Sports™ has developed a core
curriculum of life skills that we feel is unparalleled
by any other youth camp. In addition to showing and
proving to kids that they can have a great time without
the use of drugs or alcohol, we teach them ever-important
life skills that will hopefully open their eyes and
change the rest of their lives. These skills are not
always taught, but can be critical to a person's success.
For some this may be a reinforcement of what they
learn at home or at school but for many it could be
the first time they hear of it. While not taking away
from the excitement level of the camp, this program
is designed to promote personal growth, build self-confidence,
and prepare their young minds for what's next in their
lives.
The
ultimate goal is to build/reinforce their self-esteem
and confidence to the level that they realize that
they are responsible for their future and they can
achieve their goals, whatever they may be, or wherever
they may have started in life. Regardless of their
socioeconomic background, race, religion, or other
obstacles that may stand in their way, hopefully,
we spark their dream, put fuel on the fire, and motivate
them to act for themselves.
In
the youth camp, we cover a variety of topics and life
skills such as peer pressure, self-esteem awareness,
how to make new friends and get along with others,
courtesy, respect and consideration, leaving no trace,
respecting life, the importance of setting goals,
why (and how) they should prepare for and obtain an
education, the importance of reading, thinking for
themselves, how to run for a student body office,
nutrition, and several other topics as appropriate
to the session or guest speaker. We also cover basic
life skills such as communicating effectively, cooperation,
teamwork, dependability, accountability, responsibility
(not to be confused with dependability), problem solving,
and decision-making. These lessons are implemented
through fun games, lessons, contests (for cool prizes),
and other discussions, throughout their stay.

Counselor
to Camper Ratio, Number of Campers, Ages of Campers
In order to provide the best teaching and learning
environment, we feel that an ideal counselor to camper
ratio is important. This ensures that each camper
receives the special attention they may require. We
keep a maximum ratio of 5 campers to each counselor,
but most often it's a 3 to 1 ratio, which is the very
best available, anywhere. Our youth camp is designed
to give quality, individual attention, so we also
limit the number of campers at each session to 10,
depending on the activities included. The average
age of a youth camper is between 10 and 14.

Food
- Meals, Snacks, And Beverages
In order to keep camper's (and the staff's) energy
levels up, we provide two balanced meals each day
that even mom would be proud of. Campers help share
in the preparation duties with our staff and may even
learn to prepare a few different meals. Healthy snacks
are available at all times and we provide Gatorade,
bottled water, and other refreshments to encourage
campers to stay as hydrated as possible. (So we can
accommodate everyone, please let us know in advance
on the camper's registration form if there is a restriction
in your camper's diet, or if they are a vegetarian
or vegan.)

Camp Philosophy and Mottos
Our philosophy (and goal) is to provide an entertaining
camp experience with a solid and useful curriculum.
We believe our program is unmatched anywhere. We want
kids to focus so much on the fun, they forget they
are learning valuable life skills that will be essential
later in life. By spending quality time with campers,
we can ensure they have a real chance to try something
new, learn a new sport, and/or enhance their personal
and/or athletic skills. They will make new friends
and develop wonderful memories they will carry with
them for life. These are some mottos and creeds we
have picked up along the way.
If
you think you can or you think you can't, you're right
Know yourself, your strength's, and your weaknesses
Set goals and update them regularly, because
if you don't know where you're going, you might not
like where you end up
Leave no trace, this is common courtesy and
common sense; we want our children's children to enjoy
our world too
Lend a hand up, not a hand out
Smile, it attracts others
Protect animals, protect the environment, and
protect your values
This is your life; don't be a victim of circumstance
Make the best of today; Carp e'diem
I can do better than yesterday
Yesterday is gone, today is now, and tomorrow
is a dream

Youth
Camp Sponsorship Fund
At Colorado Adventure Sports™, we believe no youth
should be left out because they can't afford to participate
in a program. This is something we deeply believe
in. Our camps are designed to provide campers with
the maximum amount of learning and fun during a stay
with us, as well as expose them to many new sports
and activities. Through this exposure, we hope to
enhance their personal and athletic skills and open
the door for many new opportunities. We want to make
sure every youth that wants to has this opportunity
regardless of his or her socioeconomic background.
Colorado
Adventure Sports™ has developed a sponsorship fund
to assist those that normally couldn't participate
in a camp due to the costs. If you know of a youth
that could benefit from our program but the parents
or guardians cannot afford to pay, call or email us
(moreinfo at coloradoadventuresports.org) and let
us know about the youth's situation. If the youth
qualifies, we will make efforts to find or create
a sponsorship for them. All submissions are kept in
strict confidentiality.
In
addition, if you or your company would like to help
sponsor a youth for what will probably be the best
memory of his or her childhood, call or email us (moreinfo
at coloradoadventuresports.org) for more information
on how you can make a difference.
Help as little or as much as you want, it's up to
you. Sponsorship's are tax deductible. All information
can be held in strict confidence, although, keep in
mind that most kids like to send thank you letters,
but they can do so anonymously, through CAS.
