Core
Curriculum / Adventure Camp
At
Colorado Adventure Sports, Adventure Camps,
individuals will receive a mini education in several
different sports and activities and will most likely
develop some new hobbies and sport interests. In addition
to several sports, they will also develop new outdoor
skills that may include camping, boating, campfire
cooking, fishing (catch and release), and learning
what to do in an emergency (basic first aid and safety).
In
addition to having the most exhilarating week of their
young adulthood, Colorado Adventure Sports has
developed a core
curriculum* of topics and life skills that we
feel is unparalleled by any other young adult camp.
In addition to showing and proving to kids that they
can have a great time without the use of drugs or
alcohol, we teach them ever-important life skills
that will hopefully open their eyes and change the
rest of their lives. These skills are not always taught,
but can be critical to a persons success. For
some this may be a reinforcement of what they learn
at home or at school but for many it could be the
first time they hear of it. While not taking away
from the excitement level of the camp, this program
is designed to promote personal growth, build self-confidence,
and prepare their young minds for whats next
in their lives.
We
cover topics such as peer pressure, the importance
of goal setting, why (and how) they should get an
education, recommended classes to take in high school
and college, college planning, how they can make new
friends, thinking ahead and planning for their future,
how to run for a student body office, and other topics
as time permits. The ultimate goal is to build/reinforce
their self-esteem and confidence to the level that
they realize that they are responsible for their future
and they can achieve their goals, whatever they may
be. Regardless of their socioeconomic background,
race, religion, or any obstacles that may stand in
their way, hopefully, we spark their dream, put fuel
on the fire, and motivate them.
Some
of the important skills we cover are communicating
effectively, cooperation, teamwork, dependability,
accountability, negotiating, responsibility (not to
be confused with dependability), problem solving,
and decision-making.
*Adventure
Camps also focus on college preparation and planning
and the curriculum is staggered over 3, week-long
sessions, in 3 different summers. We also have regular
visits from local admission counselors, motivational
speakers, and other various speakers that fit within
our curriculum. The core focus is to teach teens how
to plan and execute their education, and that they
are responsible for their own success.

Counselor
To Camper Ratio, Number Of Campers, Ages Of Campers
We
feel that a high counselor to camper ratio (5 to 1)
is important for all of our camps. This ensures that
each camper receives any special attention they may
require. At each adventure camp, we have a maximum
of 10 campers ranging from a minimum age of 15 and
up (typically the summer after their freshman year).
Note that you must be 18 to skydive, and not all participants
will want to skydive, indoor skydive, paraglide, or
take a glider ride.

Typical
Daily Schedule For Adventure Camp

Food
- Meals, Snacks, and Beverages
In
order to keep campers (and the staffs)
energy levels up, we provide three balanced meals
each day that even mom would be proud of. Campers
may help share in the cooking/preparation duties with
our staff and will learn to cook a few different meals.
Healthy snacks are available at all times and we provide
Gatorade, Monster, bottled water, and other refreshments
to encourage campers to stay as hydrated as possible.
(So we can accommodate everyone, please let us know
in advance on the campers registration form
if there is a restriction in your campers diet,
or if they are a vegetarian or vegan.)

Adventure Camp Philosophy And Mottos
Our
philosophy (and goal) is to provide an entertaining
camp experience with a solid and useful curriculum.
We believe our program is unmatched anywhere. We want
kids to focus so much on the fun, they forget they
are learning valuable life skills that will be essential
later in life. By spending quality time with campers,
we can ensure they have a real chance to try something
new, learn new sports, and/or enhance their personal
and/or athletic skills. They will make new friends
and develop wonderful memories they will carry for
life. Adventure camps are life-changing events.
These
are some mottos and creeds we have picked up along
the way. Some are corny, but feel free to pick and
choose the one that may relate to you.
That
little fear in your tummy never goes away
If you
think you can or you think you cant, youre
right
Know
yourself, your strengths, and your weaknesses
Set goals
and update them regularly, because if you dont
know where youre going, you might not like where
you end up
Leave
no trace, this is common courtesy and common sense;
we want our childrens children to enjoy our
world too
Lend
a hand up, not a hand out
Smile,
it attracts others
Protect
animals, protect the environment, and protect your
values
This
is your life; dont be a victim of circumstance
Make
the best of today; Carp ediem
I can
do better than yesterday
Yesterday
is gone, today is now, and tomorrow is a dream

Adventure Camp Sponsorship Fund
At
Colorado Adventure Sports, we believe no teen
should be left out because they cant afford
to participate in a program. This is something we
deeply believe in. Our camps are designed to provide
campers with the maximum amount of learning and fun
during a stay with us, as well as expose them to many
new sports and activities. Through this exposure,
we hope to enhance their personal and athletic skills
and open the door for many new opportunities. We want
to make sure every teen that wants to has this opportunity
regardless of his or her socioeconomic background.
Colorado
Adventure Sports has developed a sponsorship
fund to assist those that normally couldnt participate
in a camp due to the costs. If you know of a teen
that could benefit from our program but the parents
or guardians cannot afford to help, call or email
us (moreinfo at coloradoadventuresports.org)
and let us know about
the teens situation. If the teen qualifies,
we will make efforts to find or create a sponsorship
for them. All submissions are kept in strict confidentiality.
In
addition, if you or your company would like to help
sponsor a teen for what will probably be the best
memory of their young adult lives, call or email us
(moreinfo at coloradoadventuresports.org) for more
information on how you can make
a difference. Help as little or as much as you
want, its up to you. Sponsorships are
tax deductible. All information can be held in strict
confidence, although, keep in mind that most kids
like to send thank you letters, but they can do so
anonymously, through CAS.
